# Add and manage student profiles in SolveWise

> Create student profiles from your parent dashboard, set login credentials, choose a math curriculum method, and manage multiple children on one account.

Every child who uses SolveWise needs their own student profile. Profiles are created and managed entirely by you from the parent dashboard — students cannot create their own accounts. This page explains how to add students, configure their profiles, and manage them over time.

## Adding a student

From your parent dashboard, click **Add Student**. Fill in the following:

| Field       | What to enter                                                              |
| ----------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| First name | Your child's first name (this is how SolveWise addresses them) |
| Grade level | Current school grade (K–12)                                                |
| Username | A login name your child will remember — can be anything, no email required |
| Password | Set a password your child can use; you can change this at any time |
| Math method | Traditional or Common Core — match what their teacher uses |

Click **Create Student** to save the profile. Your child can log in immediately with the username and password you created.

## Choosing the right math method

The math method controls how SolveWise explains and solves problems. Choose the method that matches your child's classroom:

**Traditional**
Uses standard algorithms — long division, carrying, borrowing. This is the method most parents grew up with and is appropriate for most middle and high school students.

**Common Core**
Uses visual models, number bonds, area models, and number line strategies. Common in US elementary schools (grades K–5). If your child's teacher sends home homework with ten-frames or base-ten blocks, choose Common Core.

You can change the math method at any time from the student's profile without losing any progress data.

## Plan limits and adding more students

* **Individual plan** — supports 1–2 students at \$30/mo per student
* **Family plan** — supports 3–5 students at $75/mo flat, plus $10/mo for each additional student beyond 5

If you need to add a student and are on the Individual plan with 2 students already, you'll be prompted to upgrade to the Family plan.

## Editing a student profile

From the parent dashboard, click a student's name, then **Edit Profile**. You can update:

* Grade level (update at the start of each school year)
* Math method
* Username and password

Student names cannot be changed after creation. If you need to correct a name, delete the profile and create a new one.

<Warning>
  Deleting a student profile permanently removes all homework history, quiz results, and mastery data. This cannot be undone. If you only need to temporarily remove access, use **Deactivate** instead.
</Warning>

## Deactivating a student

Deactivating a student hides their profile and prevents login without deleting any data. This is useful during school breaks or if a child finishes using SolveWise temporarily. To reactivate, go to **Account Settings > Deactivated Students** and click **Reactivate**.
