# Get started with SolveWise

> Create your SolveWise parent account, choose a plan, add your first student profile, and submit a homework problem — all in under 5 minutes.

SolveWise gets your child from stuck to understanding in minutes. This guide walks you through creating a parent account, adding your first student, and submitting a homework problem — the complete setup in five steps.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Create your parent account">
    Go to [solvewise.org](https://solvewise.org) and click **Start Free Trial**. You can sign up with Google or with an email address and password.

    During signup you'll provide:

    * Full name and email
    * Zip code (used for PTA donation routing)
    * Birth month and year (to verify you are 18 or older — required by COPPA)

    <Note>
      All SolveWise accounts are held by a parent or guardian. Students do not create their own accounts.
    </Note>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose your plan">
    Select **Individual** ($30/mo, up to 2 students) or **Family** ($75/mo, 3–5 students). Both plans include every feature and start with a **7-day free trial** — you won't be charged until the trial ends.

    You can change plans at any time from your account settings.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add your first student">
    From the parent dashboard, click **Add Student**. You'll set:

    * Your child's first name and grade level
    * A username and password your child will use to log in
    * **Math method**: Traditional or Common Core (choose whichever your child's school uses)

    <Tip>
      Not sure which math method your school uses? Traditional uses standard algorithms (long division, carrying). Common Core uses visual models and number sense strategies. Ask your child's teacher if unsure.
    </Tip>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Have your student submit a homework problem">
    Your child logs in at [solvewise.org](https://solvewise.org) with the username and password you created. To get help with a problem they can:

    * **Type or paste** the problem text directly
    * **Upload a photo** of the homework page
    * **Upload a PDF** of the assignment

    Multiple problems can be submitted at once — no need to do them one at a time.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose how much help to get">
    For each problem, your child picks their approach:

    * **Give me a hint** — a nudge in the right direction, no full solution
    * **Walk me through it** — full step-by-step explanation with reasoning
    * **I'll try on my own** — student attempts first, then checks their work

    After the session, a short mastery quiz confirms understanding. Results appear on your parent dashboard immediately.
  </Step>
