SolveWise is AI-powered math tutoring for K-12 students that teaches step-by-step reasoning and verifies understanding through mastery quizzes. Here are answers to the questions we hear most often.
No. SolveWise uses AI specifically tuned for math tutoring with verified computation, step-by-step pedagogical structure, and mastery verification quizzes. ChatGPT is a general-purpose chatbot with no progress tracking, no curriculum alignment, and no verification that your child understood anything. SolveWise is built around proven teaching methodologies — cognitive load theory, schema acquisition, and deliberate practice — not general text generation.
SolveWise gives the answer AND teaches why. After every session, a mastery quiz confirms your child actually understood the material — not just received an answer. The goal is for your child to understand the method well enough to solve similar problems independently. That’s why we track the independence rate: over time, students who are genuinely learning need less help, and that trend is visible in the parent dashboard.
SolveWise currently covers math for grades K–12, from basic arithmetic through AP Calculus. This includes:
  • Arithmetic (K–5)
  • Fractions, decimals, percentages
  • Pre-algebra and algebra
  • Geometry
  • Statistics and probability
  • Pre-calculus and trigonometry
  • Calculus
Reading comprehension is coming soon as a separate subscription. AP-level courses (Calculus AB/BC, Statistics, and others) are coming soon and will be included in the existing math subscription at no extra cost.
Photomath shows you the answer. SolveWise teaches step-by-step with explanations of why each step works, tracks mastery through quizzes, provides a parent dashboard, handles multiple problems at once, and supports both Traditional and Common Core methods. Photomath is an answer lookup tool; SolveWise is a tutoring platform.
Khan Academy is a curriculum platform built around Khan’s own teaching method. Khanmigo, their AI assistant, asks students guiding questions rather than teaching directly — which sounds good in theory, but when your child is stuck at 9pm, getting asked “well, what do you think?” is frustrating. SolveWise teaches directly, matches your child’s actual classroom curriculum (Traditional or Common Core), and handles the homework your child actually has — not a fixed curriculum.
Yes. You can upload a photo or PDF of a full homework page and SolveWise will process all the problems at once. You can also paste multiple problems as text. You don’t need to submit problems one at a time.
SolveWise uses AI to generate solutions, and AI can occasionally make errors. We encourage students to think critically about each step — that’s part of the learning process. If you notice an incorrect solution, email support@solvewise.org with the problem and the incorrect answer and we’ll investigate. SolveWise is a supplemental learning aid and should be used alongside — not instead of — classroom instruction.
Yes. SolveWise is a web application that works on any modern browser — phone, tablet, or computer. There is no app to download. Your child can take a photo of their homework on their phone and submit it directly.
SolveWise donates $2 per child per month to your local PTA, routed by the zip code you provide during signup. This is included automatically in your subscription at no extra cost to you. No action is needed — the donation happens every month your subscription is active.
Yes. Cancel with one click from Account Settings — no phone call, no questions asked, no cancellation fee. If you cancel during the free trial, you won’t be charged. If you cancel mid-month after the trial, access continues until the end of the billing period.
